Opt-in

Compliance & trust

Definition
A customer's explicit permission for a business to message them on WhatsApp — required by Meta before any business-initiated messages.

What Opt-in means

Opt-in is the explicit consent a customer gives before a business may message them on WhatsApp. Meta's Business Messaging Policy requires businesses to collect opt-in through a clear, affirmative action — a checkbox, a form, a keyword reply or similar — and to make clear that the customer will receive WhatsApp messages from that business.

Opt-in protects the channel from spam and protects the business's quality rating, because messaging people who did not agree leads to blocks and complaints that damage deliverability. Opt-in can be collected on your website, at checkout, in-store or over other channels.

InfiQ helps you capture and store opt-in and honour opt-out, in line with WhatsApp policy and data-protection principles such as the DPDP Act and GDPR.
