Why in-chat payments convert better

Every redirect is a leak. The classic funnel — message, click link, load web checkout, re-enter details, pay — loses customers at each hop, especially on mid-range Indian phones and patchy networks. Keeping payment inside the conversation collapses that funnel: the customer is already engaged, the context (which product, which order) is right there, and UPI makes paying a two-tap action. For COD-heavy Indian commerce, in-chat prepaid payment is also a powerful RTO-reduction lever — offering a small incentive to pay now converts risky COD orders into confirmed prepaid ones.

How it works

There are two broad models: payment links / gateway integration (send a secure pay request in-chat via Razorpay, PayU, Cashfree, etc., reconciled back to the conversation) and WhatsApp's native in-chat payments (where available and eligible). Both let you request a specific amount tied to an order, receive real-time success/failure webhooks, and automate the follow-up. Category and messaging rules still apply — payment requests typically ride utility messages tied to a real order.
