In detail
A coexistence connection can end for a handful of reasons, and most are avoidable.
Inactivity is a common cause. If the WhatsApp Business app on your main phone isn't used for about 14 days, Meta disconnects the platform link. Opening the app at least once every week or two prevents this. A linked connection that stays inactive for about 30 days can also be disconnected.
Changing or reinstalling your phone also ends the link, but it comes back on its own. When you register WhatsApp Business on the new phone, you'll see your connected business platform already ticked at the profile step. Leave it ticked. Reconnection runs in the background, usually takes a few minutes, and ends with a notification in the app. During those minutes platform messaging pauses, the app is briefly unavailable, and messages sent from the platform might not be delivered. Afterwards, re-link WhatsApp Web and other devices yourself. If you untick the option, or a different provider connects your account in the meantime, automatic reconnection doesn't apply and you'd connect again through signup.
Other things also end the connection: deleting your WhatsApp account, moving the number to personal WhatsApp, changing your number in WhatsApp, or a Meta policy enforcement action. You can also end it yourself from the app: Settings › Account › Business Platform › Disconnect.
To connect again after a disconnect, run your provider's signup again. If you've just disconnected from a provider, wait about 15 minutes first. A fresh connection also means a fresh one-time history import.
Key points
- Main-phone app unused for about 14 days ends the link.
- New phone or reinstall: leave the pre-ticked option on and it reconnects in minutes.
- Re-link WhatsApp Web yourself afterwards.
- Number change, personal WhatsApp, account deletion or enforcement also end it.
