West Godavari district covers 2,178 sq km with 20 mandals and 318 villages; its headquarters is Bhimavaram, and Telugu is the district's language.[1]
The Sri Kshiraramalingeshwara Swamy temple at Palakollu is one of the five Pancharama Kshetras and a centrally protected monument of national importance; Somarama in Bhimavaram is about 20 km away.[2]
The district names paddy, banana, sugarcane and coconut as its main crops, and shrimp production and pisciculture as main activities.[3]
The district's ODOP is Narasapur crochet lace, GI-registered on 1 March 2024, made in Narasapur on the Vasishta Godavari.[4]
Palakollu became a municipality on 1 April 1919; its station is on the Bhimavaram–Narasapuram branch line, and the town lies in the Narasapuram revenue division.[6]
