Nalgonda in eight lines

The name comes from the Telugu words nalla, black, and konda, hill. The town was earlier called Neelagiri by Rajput rulers, and became Nallagonda after the Bahamani king Allauddin Bahaman Shah conquered it.[1]
Palaeolithic evidence was excavated at Yeleswaram, and trade with the Roman Empire began under the Satavahanas, who ruled the area.[4]
The district's administrative table lists 31 revenue mandals, 564 revenue villages and 844 gram panchayats.[2]
Its economy page names rice milling, cotton ginning and pressing, spinning, power looms, Shabad-stone cutting and polishing, pharma and chemicals, refined edible oils, iron and steel, and cement and limestone as the main activities.[3]
The Nagarjunasagar Left Canal, the AMRP (SLBC) and the Musi and Udayasamudram projects are among the district's irrigation sources, alongside tube and dug wells.[3]
The Pachala Someswara temple at Panagal, about 4 km from the district headquarters, dates to the 11th–12th century and has 70 carved pillars.[5]
Wadapally, at the confluence of the Krishna and Musi, lies 70 km from Nalgonda and 25 km from Miryalaguda; its temples draw large crowds in Karteeka month and on Shivaratri.[5]
