On the Kolong, between rice fields and beels, a lodge's first WhatsApp reply to a Pobitora visitor sets up her whole day.
Morigaon sits on the Kolong in the middle of Assam, a district of rice, jute and beels where Pobitora's rhinos and Mayong's legends bring visitors from Guwahati. The rules for writing to them depend on what each one agreed to.
For Morigaon's lodges, guides and drivers who look after Pobitora and Mayong visitors, the fish, grain and maize traders and village weavers: how the official WhatsApp Business API handles a visitor who books and one who goes quiet, which templates go in Hindi, Bengali or English, and what each costs.
See it work
A visitor in Guwahati asks a Morigaon lodge when to come and see the rhinos. Follow the main path to a booking and a pickup reminder, then the second path, where she goes quiet and the lodge must not chase her with offers.
The main path is what a lodge near Pobitora does most days: answer a question, take a booking, and send the two notes a guest expects, the confirmation and a reminder of where the driver will meet her. Those notes are utility templates, sent because she agreed to them when she booked.
The second path matters as much. A visitor who asked and did not book has given no consent to offers. Once the 24-hour service window closes, the lodge can write to her again only with a template she agreed to, and a discount for next month is not one of them.

From the Morigaon district website, Invest India's ODOP list and IBEF's Assam profile.
Morigaon lies in the central part of Assam, with its headquarters on the bank of the Kolong River; Jagiroad and Laharighat are its co-districts.[2],[3]
The district covers 1,450.02 sq km with 5 revenue circles, 5 development blocks and 85 panchayats; the 2011 Census counted 632 villages and 9,57,853 people.[3]
Farming is the main livelihood, with rice, jute, mustard and pulses; fisheries, horticulture and livestock are significant, and rural households weave handloom and work bamboo and cane.[2]
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary, in Mayong, has the highest density of greater one-horned rhinoceros in the country and more than 375 recorded bird species; eight of its rhinos were moved to Manas under Indian Rhino Vision 2020.[4]
Mayong is known as the 'Land of Black Magic', and the district's home page features it with Pobitora and the Jonbeel Mela.[2],[1]
Jagiroad has the district's only railway station; NH-37 links Morigaon to Nagaon and Jagiroad, and Guwahati's airport is about 90 km away.[2]
Maize is the district's One District One Product.[5]
IBEF notes that GST on handloom items was cut to 5% from 22 September 2025.[6]
Four kinds of business, from the sanctuary to the villages.
Visitors come for the rhinos and birds of Pobitora, on the outskirts of Guwahati, and for the legends of Mayong.[4],[2]
Fisheries are significant in the district, and rice, jute and mustard fill the fields; traders sell on to buyers in the towns.[2]
Maize is the district's One District One Product. A firm selling it answers buyers' questions, confirms each order and sends the dispatch note.[5]
Village households weave handloom and make bamboo and cane goods for fairs and shops.[2],[6]
Meta does not approve templates in Assamese. A Morigaon business writes its few templates in Hindi, Bengali or English and answers customers in Assamese inside the window.
A reply inside the 24-hour window can be in Assamese or any language your staff write. InfiQ's own support team works in English and Hindi.

Morigaon's visitors and buyers come through Guwahati and Nagaon; each page looks at its own trades, and the India guide covers DPDP, DLT and the rules for the whole country.
Question: Visitors from Guwahati ask our lodge near Pobitora when to come and see the rhinos. Do we need a template to answer them?
Answer: No. A visitor who writes first can be answered freely for 24 hours, with visiting times, room rates and directions, each reply a service message at ₹0.145. You need a template only to write first, such as a booking confirmation or a pickup reminder, which are utility templates at ₹0.19.
Question: A visitor asked about a Pobitora stay and did not book. Can our Morigaon lodge send her a discount a week later?
Answer: Not unless she agreed to receive offers. Asking a question is not consent to marketing, and after 24 hours the lodge can write only with an approved template she agreed to. If she did opt in, a discount is a marketing template at ₹0.94. Otherwise, wait for her to write again.
Question: Our guides for Mayong talk to visitors in Assamese. Can the booking confirmation template be in Assamese?
Answer: No. Assamese is not among the languages Meta approves templates in, so write the confirmation in Hindi (hi), Bengali (bn) or English. Once the visitor replies, or whenever she writes to you, your guides can answer in Assamese inside the 24-hour window without a template.
Question: Our firm sells maize, Morigaon's ODOP product. Can we send a buyer photos of a lot and then a dispatch note?
Answer: Yes. If the buyer wrote in the last 24 hours, send the photos as replies at ₹0.145 each. Once they order and agree to updates, a dispatch note with the vehicle number and the bags loaded is a utility template at ₹0.19. A note about a new lot they did not ask for is marketing.
Question: Our firm buys fish from the beels around Morigaon and sells to traders in Guwahati. Can buyers get the lot and truck details on WhatsApp?
Answer: Yes, to buyers who agreed to updates. A note about their own order, with the weight, the truck number and the expected arrival, is a utility template at ₹0.19. Several people at the firm can answer the replies from one number on the shared inbox.
Question: Weavers' groups in Morigaon's villages sell handloom and bamboo-cane work at fairs. Is the Lite plan enough for them?
Answer: Usually, yes. Lite is ₹999 a month with the shared inbox for 10 users, plus each delivered message at the India rate. Ask buyers at the fair whether they want order updates on WhatsApp and note the date. Start with a 7-day Lite trial, no card needed.
