WhatsApp Business API for Hardoi's handloom weavers and textile units

Hardoi's looms sell by sample: a photo of a stole, a quote, and a parcel to a store in another city.

Hardoi's looms make stoles, scarves, furnishings and fabric in cotton, silk and blends. Some of it sells across a counter in town; more of it travels as a photo first, to a store in another city that orders by sample. The two sales need different messages.

For Hardoi's handloom weavers and textile finishing units, the shops that sell their cloth in Hardoi, Sandila and Bilgram, and the stays that serve pilgrims bound for Naimisharanya: how a counter sale and an order by sample differ on WhatsApp, Hindi and Urdu templates, and the rupee cost of every message.

See it work

A sale at the counter, an order by sample

The same Hardoi unit sells to a customer who walks in and to a store that never visits. Compare what each sale needs on WhatsApp, row by row.

Most Hardoi units do both kinds of sale, which is why the shared inbox matters more than broadcasts. The counter assistant and the person who handles store orders answer from the same number and see each other's notes.

Counter sale in town

Order by sample

A store in Lucknow, Kanpur or further away

  1. Counter sale in townThe customer asks at the counter and leaves a number for a tailored piece or a colour not in stock.
Order by sampleThe store writes first, asking for photos of stoles, scarves or furnishing fabric.
  2. Counter sale in townA photo of the colour when it arrives, as a reply while the customer's window is open.
Order by samplePhotos, a swatch video and a quote, as replies inside the 24-hour window.
  3. Counter sale in townOne ready-for-pickup template when the piece is done.
Order by sampleUtility templates for weaving started, finishing done and dispatch with the transport receipt.
  4. Counter sale in townNothing more to send unless they asked to hear again.
Order by sampleA payment reminder on the invoice, as a utility template.
  5. Counter sale in townOnly if the customer said yes at the counter.
Order by sampleOnly to stores that agreed to receive them, each with a way to stop.

Verdict

Both sales run on one number. The rules follow the message, not the buyer: replies while they write, utility templates for their order, marketing only with a recorded yes.

A walk-in customer's sale is mostly replies and one ready-for-pickup notice. A store ordering by sample needs replies while it decides, utility templates once it orders, and an opt-in before it hears about new designs.

Verdict: Both sales run on one number. The rules follow the message, not the buyer: replies while they write, utility templates for their order, marketing only with a recorded yes.

Hardoi (हरदोई) in seven lines

From the Hardoi district administration, Uttar Pradesh's ODOP portal and Invest India's list, with Wikipedia only for the legend and the town's old trades.

The district covers 5,989 sq km with 19 blocks and 13 municipalities, in the Lucknow Commissionerate; Lucknow and Unnao lie to its south and the Gomti separates it from Sitapur in the east.[1]

It has five tehsils: Hardoi, Shahabad, Bilgram, Sandila and Sawayajpur. The Gomti, the Ramganga and the Sai are among its rivers.[2]

The district relates its name to Hiranyakashipu: Hardoi is read as a worn form of an older name, Haridrohi, and the town is called the city of Bhakt Prahlad, from the Holi story.[3],[1],[6]

Mallawan, once the district headquarters, Bilgram, Pihani, Shahabad and Sandila are named as its places of historical note; Pihani is where Humayun is said to have sheltered after his defeat by Sher Shah Suri.[3]

Naimisharanya, a pilgrimage centre, lies about 45 km from the district headquarters.[1],[2]

Handloom and textile products are the district's ODOP products: fabrics, stoles, scarves and furnishings woven on hand looms from cotton, silk and blended yarns, with weaving, processing and finishing done in small units.[5],[4]

The town's old trade was grain gathered from the villages and sent out by rail from a market at Railwayganj near the station.[6]

Questions Hardoi businesses ask

A store in Lucknow asks our Hardoi handloom unit for photos of cotton-silk stoles. Can we reply with photos, a video and a quote?
Yes. The store's message opens a 24-hour window in which your staff can send photos, a swatch video and a quote with no template. Each reply is charged at ₹0.145, and the window starts again whenever the store writes back.
Our dyeing and printing unit in Hardoi finishes a saree lot days after the buyer last wrote. How do we tell them it is ready?
With a utility template, approved once in Hindi or Urdu and sent at ₹0.19. A job-ready or pickup notice for an order the buyer placed can go at any time, and it needs no opt-in to offers.
Can we send our new furnishing designs to every store that has ever ordered cloth from Hardoi?
Only to stores that agreed to receive new designs, with a record of when and how. A past order is not an opt-in. The designs go as an approved marketing template at ₹0.94, with a way to opt out.
We have counters in Hardoi town, Sandila and Bilgram. Can one WhatsApp number serve all three?
Yes. With a shared inbox, staff at each counter answer from the same number, and labels or transfers send each chat to the right counter. Lite includes 10 users and Growth 25, so each tehsil town can have its own login.
Hardoi is called the city of Bhakt Prahlad, from the Holi story. Can our shop send Holi offers to everyone who has bought from us?
Only to customers who said yes to offers. A Holi offer is a marketing template at ₹0.94, and each one carries a way to stop. Ask for that yes at the counter or in a reply, and keep the record of when it was given.
Pilgrims stop in Hardoi on the way to Naimisharanya, about 45 km away. Can our guest house confirm rooms and send directions on WhatsApp?
Yes. A room confirmation, the pickup time and directions for a stay already booked are utility templates at ₹0.19. Keep offers for other dates out of them, or Meta may treat the message as marketing.
