Lakhimpur Kheri in eight lines

Lakhimpur is the administrative capital of Lakhimpur Kheri, which the district calls the largest in Uttar Pradesh: 7,680 sq km in Lucknow division on the border with Nepal, with 7 tehsils, 15 blocks and 1,167 gram panchayats.[1]
Under Akbar the area was part of the Sarkar of Khairabad in the Subah of Oudh. After 1858 the British formed a single district from Mohammadi and Mallanpur, and its headquarters moved to Lakhimpur shortly afterwards.[2]
The district's Dudhwa National Park page goes back to 1861, when 775 sq km of forest between the Mohana and Suhaili rivers was declared reserved forest.[3]
The district names the Chhoti Kashi temple at Gola Gokarannath and the Frog Temple at Oel among its places to visit.[1]
The state's ODOP portal describes the district by its fertile Terai landscape, forest resources, sugarcane cultivation and proximity to Nepal.[5]
Its tribal craft turns grass, natural fibres, wood and beads into baskets, mats, jewellery and decorative pieces, and its jaggery is boiled in open pans and moulded into blocks, cubes or powder.[5],[6]
Lucknow is 134 km by road; Palia airport, near Dudhwa, is about 90 km from Lakhimpur, and Delhi about 425 km by road via Bareilly, Shahjahanpur and Gola Gokarannath.[4]
Uttar Pradesh is India's largest sugarcane producer, with nearly 48.6% of national output in 2024-25.[7]
