What the Jogulamba Gadwal administration records about the town, its rivers and its temples, with Invest India's district product.
The district was carved out of Mahabubnagar and made a district on 11 October 2016. It covers 2,575.5 sq km, with one revenue division and 12 mandals.[1]
It had 6,09,990 residents at the 2011 Census. Gadwal town had 63,177 and Alampur, the next largest, 35,021.[1]
The district says Gadwal is renowned all over the world for its handloom zari sarees and other fabrics.[1]
Gadwal Fort was built in the seventeenth century by Peda Soma Bhupaludu and holds the Sri Chennakesava Swamy temple and a Sri Ramalayam.[1]
Alampur, on the Tungabhadra, has the shrine of Goddess Jogulamba, fifth of the eighteen Shakti peethams, which gives the district its name; the Nava Brahma temples stand nearby.[1]
The Krishna enters Telangana from Karnataka near Jurala; the Jurala dam in Dharoor mandal was the first project built on the river in the state, and Jurala and Nettempadu irrigate the district.[1]
Gadwal is about 210 km from Hyderabad by the Bengaluru–Hyderabad national highway.[1]
