Dhar, from the district's own pages

Dhar district, in the Indore division, covers 8,153 sq km and has a population of 21,85,793, with 13 development blocks, 1,625 revenue villages and 761 gram panchayats.[1]
The Paramaras ruled Malwa for about 400 years; Bhojadeva moved his capital from Ujjain to Dhar and founded the Sanskrit university called the Bhoja Shala.[2]
In 1401 Dilawar Khan Ghuri made Dhar the capital of an independent Malwa; his successor Hoshang Shah moved it to Mandu. Later Baji Rao Peshwa granted Dhar to Anand Rao Pawar, whose line held it until 1948.[2]
Mandu lies about 35 km from Dhar and 95 km from Indore, at about 2,000 feet on the Vindhyas; Indore's Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport is the nearest airport.[4]
Bagh print takes its name from Bagh village on the Bagh river, where Muslim Khatri printers who moved from Manawar in 1962 block-print red and black natural colours on white.[3]
The district lists 15 industrial areas with 1,406 units in production, Pithampur the largest, an auto cluster set up by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and 7,355 registered MSMEs.[5]
