Deoband and Saharanpur district
From the Saharanpur district administration, Uttar Pradesh's ODOP portal, Triveni Engineering and Meta; Wikipedia only for the town's history and its seminary.
Deoband is a tehsil of Saharanpur district and the site of the Sri Tripur Bala Sundari Devi temple.[2]
The Darul Uloom Deoband was established on 21 May 1866; Muhammad Qasim Nanotawi was among its founders, and the Deobandi movement began there.[7]
The Ain-i-Akbari lists Deoband as a pargana of the Saharanpur sarkar with a brick fort, and the Bhakti saint Hith Harivansh Mahaprabhu lived in the town in the 16th century.[7]
Saharanpur district covers 3,689 sq km in 11 blocks and became the seat of a division in 1997. It has the Shivaliks to the north, the Yamuna and Haryana to the west, Haridwar to the east and Muzaffarnagar to the south.[1]
The district is primarily agricultural, and its wood-carving cottage industry earns foreign exchange.[1]
Wood carving and hosiery are Saharanpur's ODOP products. Saharanpur wood craft received its GI certificate on 31 March 2014, and the Saharanpur Handicraft Development Centre is listed as a functional common facility centre.[3]
Triveni Engineering extended its Deoband sugar unit's crushing capacity to 10,000 tonnes of cane a day in 1993 and started its first co-generation plant there, of 22 MW, in December 2004.[4]
