A toy town whose buyers live elsewhere
Channapatna sits on the Bengaluru–Mysuru highway, about 60 km from Bengaluru and 75 km from Mysuru, and its toys have been made here since Tipu Sultan's reign. The district's own website shows them as its colourful wooden toys and carries a video titled Land of Dolls.
The people who buy them, though, are mostly somewhere else: gift shops in the two cities, resellers further away, families who stopped on the highway once and want the same rattle again. That makes the first conversation a long-distance one, and WhatsApp is where it already happens. On the official API, a shop that writes in opens a 24-hour window in which every photo, price and answer is an ordinary reply; only what the workshop sends after a quiet day needs an approved template.
The same split works for the taluk's other trades. Raw silk twisting, rice, ragi and coconut are its major products, and in each case the buyer asks first and the seller answers, until there is an order to confirm, a lot to dispatch or a payment to chase.
