Four names for one silk town
Under Tipu Sultan the town was Shamsherabad. The British period named it Closepet, after Sir Barry Close, and the name survives in geology as the Closepet granite. Kengal Hanumanthaiah, a former Chief Minister, renamed it Ramanagara, and in 2007 it became the headquarters of a new district carved out of Bengaluru Rural. On 23 May 2025 that district became Bengaluru South, with Ramanagara still its headquarters.
For a business, the change is practical. If an approved template prints your address with the old district name in its fixed text, editing it sends it back to Meta for review; if the address goes in as a variable, you only change the value you send. Buyers still search for Ramanagara silk and Channapatna toys, so the names on your profile matter as much as the one on the map.
