Step by step: the WhatsApp widget on Shopify
Step 1: Build and copy your widget
In the generator on this page, enter your WhatsApp number with the country code, pick one of the five designs, set your colours and greeting, then click Copy script.
Step 2: Open your theme code
In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes. On your current theme, click the ⋯ button and choose Edit code.
Step 3: Paste into theme.liquid
Under Layout, open theme.liquid, scroll to the bottom and paste the embed code on the line just above </body>.
Step 4: Save and preview
Click Save and open your store in a new tab: the widget shows on the home, collection, product and cart pages.
Step 5: Want a safety net? Duplicate first
Duplicate the theme (⋯ → Duplicate), add the code to the copy, preview it, then publish. You can switch back in one click.

Product-aware messages
Add a URL rule with /products/ as the source and a message like “Hi! Is {{page_title}} available in my size?” so every chat names the product.
Switching or updating themes
Code in theme.liquid belongs to that theme. If you move to a new theme or a new version of yours, paste the snippet into it before publishing.
Checkout stays clean
Shopify's checkout doesn't load theme code, so the widget never sits over the payment step.
Cart drawers and other chat apps
If a cart button or another chat app already sits bottom-right, move the widget to the left or raise its bottom margin.

Do I need a Shopify app for a WhatsApp chat button?
No. Apps add a monthly fee and often more scripts than you need. The widget is one snippet in theme.liquid, free, with no app permissions to grant.
Is it safe to edit theme.liquid?
Yes. Pasting the code just above </body> doesn't change your layout. Duplicate the theme first if you want an easy way back.
Will the widget show on Shopify checkout?
No. Checkout doesn't load theme code, so the widget appears on your storefront pages only.
Can I send order and shipping updates on WhatsApp?
The widget starts conversations with shoppers. Automatic order, shipping, COD and cart-recovery messages need the WhatsApp Business API, which InfiQ's Shopify integration sets up.
Will it slow down my Shopify store?
