Alha and Udal, generals of Parmardi-deva, fought Prithviraj Chauhan's forces when he took Mahoba in 1182, and their deeds are sung in the Alha-Khand of the court poet Jagnik.[2],[1]

Mahoba has been famous for betel-leaf cultivation since it became the Chandela capital; the Ain-i-Akbari records the area sending 12,000 paans to the Mughal court.[2]
