Kashipur in eight lines
From the Udham Singh Nagar district administration, IIM Kashipur and Invest India's ODOP list, with Wikipedia only for the city's history, geography, transport and economy in general terms.
Udham Singh Nagar district was established in October 1995, carved from Nainital district and named after Shaheed Udham Singh; it covers 2,542 sq km, with 9 tehsils and 7 blocks.[1]
Kashipur lies in the Terai of south-western Kumaon, between the Ramganga and Kosi basins, and is drained mainly by the Dhela, a tributary of the Ramganga.[4]
It was Govishana in Harsha's time and was visited by Xuanzang in the 7th century; it is named after Kashinath Adhikari, governor of the Terai under the Chand king Devi Chand, and was ceded to the British in 1801.[4]
Its municipality was set up in 1872 and became a municipal corporation on 26 January 2013; the city has 40 wards, and Kumaoni and Hindi are its main languages.[4]
Farming of rice, wheat and sugarcane is the main activity; paper and sugar mills have a presence in the city, and larger industrial units stand along the Kashipur–Thakurdwara road.[4]
IIM Kashipur, at Kundeshwari, was set up by the Government of India in 2011 and offers MBA, MBA (Analytics), Executive MBA and doctoral programmes.[2]
Kashipur Junction (KPV) links the city to Ramnagar, Kathgodam, Moradabad and Delhi; NH 309 and NH 734 serve it. Drona Sagar, the Maa Balsundari temple and the Chaiti Mela draw visitors.[4]
Invest India's ODOP list names moonj grass products as Udham Singh Nagar's product.[3]
