Argentina, in figures

Latin America's third-largest economy, built on food exports, shale and lithium, with Buenos Aires as its commercial centre.

Argentina's nominal GDP was about US$684 billion in 2025, third in Latin America after Brazil and Mexico, by the IMF's estimate.[7]

Population was about 45.9 million in 2025, according to the World Bank; the U.S. ITA puts nearly 38% of people in the City and Province of Buenos Aires and another 21% in Córdoba, Santa Fe and Mendoza provinces.[8],[11]

Food products were about half of merchandise exports in 2025 (World Bank), and the U.S. ITA calls Argentina the largest exporter of soybean oil and meal.[9],[11]

The Central Bank's Transferencias 3.0 framework lets any QR code be paid from a bank account (CBU) or a payment-provider wallet (CVU), without a debit card.[16]

Credit cards held the largest share of e-commerce payments, 39%, with digital wallets forecast to reach 59% by 2027 (U.S. ITA citing PCMI).[14]

Argentina uses a single time zone, UTC-3, all year, and has not observed daylight saving time since March 2009.[17]

Atlas

One clock from Jujuy to Tierra del Fuego

All of Argentina keeps UTC-3, eight and a half hours behind India, with no daylight saving.

That makes scheduling simple: 18:30 IST is 10:00 in Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Mendoza alike, all year round. The Indian working day ends as Argentina's begins, so a support rota in India covers Argentine mornings during the Indian evening.

Buenos Aires City and Province hold nearly two in five Argentines, and three more provinces another fifth, so one well-timed send reaches most of the market at once.

Six Argentine sectors and their messages

Where Argentina earns its money, and the WhatsApp updates that fit each.

Lithium

USGS estimates 2025 mine output at 23,000 tonnes, up from 13,800 in 2024, with reserves of about 4.4 million tonnes, mainly in the salt flats of Salta, Jujuy and Catamarca.[15],[12]

  • Supplier coordination

Spanish, the Argentine way

Argentine customers write with vos, not tú. Meta has a template code for Argentine Spanish: es_AR.

A template in neutral or Mexican Spanish is understood in Argentina but reads as imported: 'tenés' and 'podés' rather than 'tienes' and 'puedes'. Write Argentine templates in es_AR with a native speaker, and keep the same voice in your automated replies.

InfiQ's own support team works in English and Hindi. Spanish copy comes from your side.

Questions businesses ask about WhatsApp in Argentina

  1. Q1

Do promotional WhatsApp messages to Argentine customers need prior consent under Law 25,326?

Yes, as a rule. Law 25,326 requires free, express and informed consent, in writing or an equivalent means, subject to its exceptions, and Article 27 lets advertisers use data people supplied, data obtained with consent or certain public data, with a right to have it withdrawn at any time. WhatsApp's policy requires an opt-in regardless, so collect it and keep the record.

  2. Q2

Does Argentina's No Llame registry apply to WhatsApp messages?

The law does not say. Law 26,951 covers telephone services in any modality and does not name messaging apps, and the AAIP describes the registry as stopping advertising calls. Screening promotional lists against it every 30 days, as the law requires of telephone advertisers, is the cautious choice.

  3. Q3

Do we have to register our database of Argentine contacts with the AAIP?

Argentine law requires databases holding personal data to be registered in the National Registry of Databases, which the AAIP runs. A business based in Argentina should do this before it messages; a business abroad should check whether the requirement reaches it.

  4. Q4

Can Argentine customers pay through a QR or transfer link sent on WhatsApp?

Yes, through your own payment provider. InfiQ does not offer in-chat payments, but a utility template can carry your checkout's payment link. Under the Central Bank's Transferencias 3.0 framework any QR can be paid from a bank account or a wallet, so the hand-off is a familiar one.

  5. Q5

Does InfiQ bill in pesos or in US dollars?

Neither: InfiQ bills in Indian rupees, and it serves India-based businesses. The peso figures on this page are indicative conversions, and because the price is set in rupees the peso amount moves with the exchange rate. A business based in Argentina should talk to sales about availability.

  6. Q6

Will our WhatsApp templates sound natural in Argentine Spanish?

Only if you write them that way. Meta accepts templates under es_AR, and the wording is yours: use vos forms such as 'tenés' and 'podés', and keep the same voice in automated flows. Have a native speaker review each template before you submit it.

  7. Q7

What happens to our WhatsApp setup if Argentina passes its new data-protection bill?

Nothing changes until it becomes law. The AAIP still presents the 2023 bill as a bill, so Law 25,326 governs today. Records showing who agreed, when and how will matter under either law, which is why InfiQ stores the source and time of every opt-in.

  8. Q8

Can a company based in Buenos Aires sign up with InfiQ?

Through sales. InfiQ is built for India-based businesses: it processes customer data in India and supports customers in English and Hindi on India time. A company based in Argentina should ask sales whether and how InfiQ is available before planning around it.
