Urun Islampur in seven lines
From the Sangli district administration's page, Rajarambapu Institute of Technology's site and Invest India's ODOP list; the town's history and its renaming are general background from Wikipedia.
The town is officially Ishwarpur and commonly called Uran Islampur; its oldest part, Uran, holds the Uranai Devi temple, and it was probably established in the 16th or early 17th century under the Sultanate of Bijapur.[4]
A state gazette notification of 4 November 2025 made the name Ishwarpur official and renamed the council Urun-Ishwarpur Nagar Parishad; the Prakash Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, a private medical school and hospital, is in the town.[4]
Rajarambapu Institute of Technology, Rajaramnagar, formerly the College of Engineering, Sakharale, was established in 1983 near Islampur, 7 km from Peth Naka on the Pune–Bangalore highway.[2]
Sangli district's major rivers are the Krishna and the Warna; sugarcane, turmeric and grapes are its key crops, and it has many sugar factories.[1]
Walwa is one of the district's ten talukas; many villages in Palus, Walwa and Miraj talukas are at risk of flood, and tobacco is grown across the Krishna basin, Walwa included.[1]
Marathi is the district's main language, with Kannada spoken near the Karnataka border; the district was formed as South Satara in 1949 and named Sangli in 1960.[1]
