Thanesar and Kurukshetra in seven lines

Kurukshetra district was carved out of Karnal district on 23 January 1973. It covers 1,530 sq km in 4 sub-divisions, 6 tehsils and 7 blocks, and lists Hindi and English as its languages.[2],[1]
Brahma Sarovar lies in Thanesar (PIN 136118), 3.4 km from Kurukshetra Junction; the district names Kurukshetra in the first verse of the Bhagavad Gita and Jyotisar as the place where Krishna taught Arjuna.[3],[1]
The International Gita Mahotsav runs from 5 to 25 December 2026 at Brahma Sarovar, the district's calendar shows.[1]
The district's attractions include Sthaneshwar Mahadev, Harsh ka Tila, Sheikh Chehli's tomb, the Bhadrakali temple, the Sri Krishna Museum and the Panorama and Science Centre.[4]
With Karnal and Kaithal, Kurukshetra is known as the rice bowl of India and for its basmati; the town lies on the Delhi–Ambala railway line, about 160 km north of Delhi.[2]
