Palani in nine lines
From the Commissionerate of Municipal Administration, the Dindigul district administration and Invest India's ODOP list; the hills, highway and buses are general background from Wikipedia.
Palani was constituted a municipality in 1886, after Lord Ripon's local self-government reforms; it became Selection Grade in 1988 and Special Grade in 2025, and its office is on Red Cross Road.[1]
The Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple, one of the Six Abodes of Murugan, stands on Sivagiri, the higher of Palani's two hills, reached by a staircase cut into the hillside.[2]
A winch runs from 6 a.m. on ordinary days and from 4 a.m. on festival days, and a rope car runs in a morning and an afternoon session.[2]
Its festivals include Thai Poosam, by far the most important, Panguni Uththiram, Vaikasi Visakam and Soora Samharam, and pilgrims come barefoot, on foot, from distant towns and villages.[2]

The district names Palani's own station as the nearest railhead and Madurai as the nearest airport, and direct buses come from every city in Tamil Nadu.[2]
