WhatsApp Business API for reaching London customers from India

A London mobile written as 07700 900456 looks exactly like an Indian one once the 0 goes. Store the number right, send on London's clock, and the rest is an approved template.

For India-based businesses with buyers, shoppers or applicants in London: why +44 numbers break in CRMs built for India and how to store them, what the UK–India trade deal means for your updates, when to send on London time, and what each message costs in rupees.

See it work

Fix a London number before your CRM breaks it

Most Indian forms and CRMs assume +91. Pick a London number below, written the ways customers write them, and see what an API needs instead.

A UK mobile written the domestic way, 07700 900456, is the trap. Strip the leading 0 and a rule written for India sees a ten-digit number starting with 7 and adds +91. The template then goes to an Indian number, or to nobody, and your London customer never hears from you.

The fix is upstream: ask for the country on the form, save every number as +44 followed by the digits without the 0, and reject a number with no country code instead of guessing. A London landline such as 020 7946 0991 cannot be guessed at all, which is the honest answer.

When your system sends through the developer API, it passes the number in that one format, so the cleaning has to happen before the send, in your own data.

Four ways to write a London number

E.164 is the one format phone APIs agree on: a +, the country code, then the number — no spaces, no leading 0.

Try

Any format works: spaces, dashes, brackets, a 0 or 00 prefix.

  • Stripped 1 separator (spaces, dashes, dots, brackets).
  • Dropped the leading 0 — a trunk prefix used only for domestic calls.
  • Assumed India (+91): a 10-digit number starting 6–9 is an Indian mobile.
  • Valid E.164: a + followed by 12 digits, nothing else.
The examples come from Ofcom's drama ranges, so none of them belongs to a real person. Watch the first one: with its 0 dropped it is ten digits starting with 7, the shape of an Indian mobile.

On InfiQ

What an Indian team uses to write to London

The parts of InfiQ that matter once the customers are in the UK capital.

  1. Template manager and library

Draft order, dispatch and appointment templates in en_GB and track each one through Meta's approval before your first London send.

  2. Consent records and opt-out enforcement

UK marketing turns on PECR consent as well as Meta's opt-in, so each London contact's opt-in source and time is kept, and STOP blocks later sends.

  3. Shared team inbox

London replies land through the Indian afternoon and evening; roles and transfers let whoever is on shift pick them up in order.

  4. Integrations over the API

A Shopify or WooCommerce store selling to London connects through the API and webhooks today; native one-click connectors are still in development.

Questions London businesses ask

Our CRM saved a London customer's mobile as 07700 900456 and the WhatsApp message never arrived. What went wrong?+
With the 0 dropped, that number is ten digits starting with 7, which a CRM set up for India reads as an Indian mobile and prefixes with +91. Save UK numbers as +44 followed by the number without its 0, here +447700900456, and ask for the country on every form. The transformer above shows each case.
A London importer wants dispatch and shipment updates for our garments on WhatsApp. Are those marketing messages?+
No. Updates about an order the buyer has placed are utility templates, ₹1.93 per delivered message to a UK number. Promotions about new ranges are marketing, ₹5.58 each, and need the buyer's opt-in to WhatsApp messages from you as well as whatever PECR requires; the [United Kingdom guide](/whatsapp-business-api/countries/united-kingdom) explains PECR and the soft opt-in.
Now that the UK–India trade deal is in force, can we tell London buyers about price changes on WhatsApp?+
Yes, if they have opted in. A note to an existing buyer about their own order or contract is a utility message; a general announcement of new prices or ranges is marketing. The deal has applied since 15 July 2026, but it changes no messaging rule: opt-in, approved templates and the UK rate still apply.
What time should a campaign leave India to reach London at 9 a.m.?+
At 14:30 IST while London is on Greenwich Mean Time, and at 13:30 IST during British Summer Time, from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October. Simpler still: schedule the broadcast in London time and let the platform work out the Indian hour.
Our counsellors in India answer London applicants on WhatsApp. Can several of them share one number?+
Yes. The shared team inbox gives 10 users on Lite and 25 on Growth, with agent and manager roles, transfers, labels and private notes, so an applicant's thread can pass from the day counsellor to the evening one without losing its history.
We have a London-registered company and an Indian one. Which should hold the InfiQ account?+
InfiQ serves India-based businesses: it bills in rupees with GST and keeps customer data in India, so the Indian company is the natural account holder and can message London numbers at the UK rate. If the account must belong to the business based in London, talk to sales about whether InfiQ fits.
