Two-Factor Authentication (WABA PIN)(2FA)

Compliance & trust

Definition
A six-digit PIN that secures a WhatsApp Business number's registration on the API, required to register or move the number.

What Two-Factor Authentication (WABA PIN) means

Two-factor authentication (2FA) for the WhatsApp Business API is a six-digit PIN attached to a registered business phone number. WhatsApp requires this PIN when registering the number on the API and when the number is moved or re-registered, adding a layer of protection against unauthorised takeover.

This is distinct from the Authentication template category, which delivers one-time passcodes to a business's own end customers. The WABA 2FA PIN protects the business's own account infrastructure.

InfiQ manages the 2FA PIN for provisioned numbers as part of secure onboarding, so the number cannot be registered elsewhere without it.
